Sister Elizabeth Jackson died in 1882, buried at Hannibal, Mo.

Sister Elizabeth Jackson died at her residence in Galesburg, Illinois, April 13, 1882, aged 64 years. She was born in Virginia; she was married to Rev. W.M. Jackson in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1839. Her husband died in this city April 5th, 1874. She was a devoted wife, an affectionate mother, and a devout, earnest Christian, having been a member of the A.M.E. Church for fifty years. She came to this city with her husband in 1873, where she has resided nine years. During her illness she exercised great patience, often shouting and praising God for his goodness. She called her sister Mrs. Angie Wade, of Hannibal , Missouri , and bade her good bye with the injunction to meet her in heaven. When Rev. Bro. Christburgh, her pastor, called, he would ask her, “Shall I pray and sing for you?” “Yes,” she said, “I always loved praying and singing, and I am only waiting for Jesus to welcome me home.” Thus after a long life of usefulness she passed away peacefully and quietly from a large circle of friends and relatives, respected and honored by all who knew her leaving as a legacy to the church, a bright Christian experience and a continued devotion to the cause of Christ. The funeral services took place in Allen Chapel Saturday, April 15th, 1882, of which the deceased was a member. Rev. G.C. Christburgh officiating, after which the remains were borne to Hope Cemetery.
