While media attention is focused upon quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts as this weekend’s ultimate football matchup approaches, Hannah Bogue-Baker of Kansas City, a Hannibal native, is shining in the spotlight as well.
Hannah, a member of the Kansas City Chief’s cheer squad, will be at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, cheering the Chiefs on to a potential and unprecedented third-consecutive Super Bowl victory.
Winning a spot on the 2024-25 cheer squad was one of the greatest honors of her life, Hannah said, “but now, getting the opportunity to be part of one of the largest sports events in our country is nearly indescribable. For me, it's not just the fact that I get to do this, it's the fact that I get an extended season and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend more time with my teammates and the Chiefs organization.”
Now that the season has culminated in a Super Bowl nod, Hannah recognizes the uniqueness of the gift at hand.“Getting to go to the Super Bowl and represent the legacy of our alumni is such a gift. This opportunity also means that we get the chance to spread joy and love outside of Kansas City, which to me is so special. We get to connect with so many fans, not just Chiefs fans but also NFL fans in general.
“This opportunity means that I get to represent the Chiefs and my (cheer) team, which is a responsibility I take very seriously and cherish immensely.”
Young dancer
Dancing has been Hannah’s lifelong passion. As a child she studied under Hannibal dance instructors Barb Stewart and Karen Deushane, and was a member of the first dance team at Hannibal High School to earn athletic letters. She furthered her study of dance at Missouri State University, earning B.S. degrees in both Dance and Public Relations.
All of her past dance experience, combined with her continuing enthusiasm for the art of dance, have culminated in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cheer at the Super Bowl.
“It's a big deal to get to represent the Chiefs, my family, my friends, my hometown community, and my Kansas City community, and I am taking a piece of everyone with me in my heart to New Orleans,” she said this week.
Hannah told the Courier-Post in July 2024, prior to the start of the football season, “I’m very proud and honored to have this opportunity (to cheer for the Chiefs), to have a dream come true, it is surreal. My hope has always been to inspire others to go after their dreams. All my nieces, people I used to teach at Karen’s, I want this opportunity to be bigger than myself. I want to use my gifts to honor the Lord; to just be a champion and inspire others to pursue their dreams, and to be a part of someone’s story.”
This will be Hannah’s first experience at cheering in a domed stadium.
“GEHA Field at Arrowhead stadium where we cheer is an open stadium which means that we get to cheer in all kinds of weather, making the season super diverse and fun. We have cheered in rain, heat, etc. I have never actually been to a domed stadium before. This whole experience will be a lot of ‘firsts’ for me.
“I think it's really exciting that the Super Bowl is in New Orleans. New Orleans is one of my favorite places. It's so rich with culture, music, and food. It's also special to cheer in a city right on the Mississippi, it makes it feel a little bit like home.”
Also, “This is my first time getting to travel with the team out of Kansas City, so that alone will mean so many sweet memories,” she said.
Hannah is the daughter of Eddie Bogue, a life-long law enforcement officer, and the late Lynne Dexheimer Bagchi.
“I know that my mom and step dad, who have both passed, would be so proud. I know my dad, who is my biggest cheerleader (next to my husband of course) is so proud.”
The season-long experience of representing the Kansas City Chiefs, “has changed my life forever and has made me the very best version of myself.” She credits her coach, the cheer alumni, the Chiefs ownership, “and most notably my teammates. They are 33 of the most incredible human beings I've ever met.
“Further, there have been incredible women who have paved the path for all of us to have success on this team and those women who have come before us and cheered for the Chiefs long before we entered this dynasty.
“This opportunity furthers my ability to be a role model to my nieces and nephews and kids in the community. Whether we made it to the Super Bowl or not, my hope is that people can look at this and feel inspired to chase after their dreams or believe in themselves.”
